about us

The Manzárd Café blog was launched on 20 January 2010. Our business grew out of this blog, and on 15 March 2020, Manzárd Workshop was born.
Over the years, we have organised numerous exhibitions for talented Hungarian artists, taken part in charity projects, hosted events and parties, collaborated with many companies — and for us, the sky is the limit.
Our milestones:
- On 13 February 2016, Laci Gyarmati, co-founder of the blog, passed away suddenly and tragically. In the same year, Antal “BAANTAL” Balázs joined the blog as co-editor. Balázs graduated from MOME in 2009 as a silicate industrial designer and designer-artist.
- In the autumn of 2018, we launched the Manzárd Café Shop, where you could purchase products decorated with patterns by Balázs and other talented Hungarian artists.
- In March 2020, at the outbreak of the Covid pandemic, we decided that it was time to set out on our own path — at least in terms of our careers — and we created the Manzárd workshop under the name Manzárd Workshop. Due to the circumstances at the time, it initially consisted only of online watercolour painting and clay workshops. This was also the period when we decided that the theme of the blog would change along with us, and would focus more on presenting our own creative activities.
- In the summer of 2020, we bought our first kiln and pottery wheel, and rented a small space at Art Quarter Budapest, where our workshop finally took physical form. As the restrictions gradually eased, our online workshops were replaced by in-person sessions.
- From the summer of 2021, we expanded our programmes to include creative camps. Since then, every summer we have held an art camp by Lake Balaton, and every winter we organise one in a wonderful mountainous, valley-filled location.
- In the autumn of 2022, thanks to a fantastic opportunity, we opened a pop-up shop at 1093 Budapest, Ráday utca 55. At first, this was only meant to be temporary, but life eventually allowed us to stay there long term. We opened our ceramics showroom and shop at this location, and also moved our workshops into this wonderful downtown setting. Our workshops continue to run there regularly in spring and autumn seasons.
- From 2024 onwards, we became involved in several major projects. We received corporate commissions, including the creation of custom company gifts, and Balázs designed and produced the unique cast porcelain award for Árukereső’s “Az Ország Boltja” competition. Tibi also created the brand’s new logo, while several decorative elements for the gala were made by the Manzárd team, including the photo wall, table decorations and standing table ornaments.
- From the summer of 2026, we will welcome our guests and host our increasingly diverse programmes in a wonderful new space of nearly 170 square metres at 1082 Budapest, Kisfaludy utca 19.
